Voice typing in Slack on Windows
Which key sends the message, and which one waits.
One thing first, because it is the only way this goes wrong: F2 sends. It types what you say and then presses Enter, and in most Slack setups Enter posts the message. There is no moment to read it in between. F1 types the same words and leaves the sending to you.
The keys, as they behave in Slack

When I use which
F2 for the quick ones: "on my way", "yes, Thursday works", "thanks, looks good to me". A DM where a slip costs nothing.
F1 for a channel with a lot of people, a thread that someone will quote, anything long, and anything with a name that needs fixing. Mentions and channel links are typed by you anyway, since VinPUT only types text.
If you never want a surprise, empty the F2 field under Settings, General, Hotkeys. Keys other than the dictate key can be switched off that way.
How to
- Install VinPUT and choose a model under Settings, Models.
- Click into the Slack message box and tap F1.
- Say your reply, tap F1 again, read it, press Enter.
Stock replies work well as snippets, saved text of up to 1000 characters that a short phrase brings up. If Slack runs as administrator, Windows blocks typing into it.
Questions
Can I stop F2 from sending something I got wrong?
Press Esc while you dictate and the dictation is dropped. With VinPUT Pro, words already typed as you spoke stay on the screen.
Does it work in Slack in the browser?
Yes. Any text field in a window that is not running as administrator will do.
Can I change which key presses Enter?
Yes. Under Settings, General, Hotkeys, click the field and press the key you want. A key that types text needs Ctrl, Alt or Win with it.
